Bass, let's get a new candidate who will listen

There is a lot of controversy about our local member Ken Smith. As speaker he appears to have lost support of the parliament. This will be a bonus for Bass residents.

You would think if he was going to hold the parliament to ransom it would be about things that matter to the people who live in his electorate. Not about his own personal agenda. Some of the things that do matter are to us on the Island are ::

A hospital on Phillip Island. He has totally ignored this, refusing to speak to those who are organising rally's,

A secondary school on the island. The federal member has been very supportive but Ken had to many meetings in Melbourne to attend the local interest groups meetings.

A local pool instead of the 45 minutes to go to Wonthaggi which has a smaller population.

Yep resign Ken, so the Parlement can operate and we can have an effective voice in Phillip Island.

The liberal party and the cattle in the paddock.

Your team is only as good as the cattle in the paddock. A lot has been made of Ballieu and his failings as a Premier, since his resignation. But I can't help think the governments issues is also about the quality of ministers. A few examples

Treasurer Kim Wells :: Victoria is now in recession, enough said.

Deputy Ryan :: Overland ex- top cop and his 'resignation' the smell continues to linger.

David Davis :: Everything about health seems to be in crisis: from fixing the problems to even worse problems. Waiting lists have blown.

Mathew Guy planning minister :: Seems to ignore planning advice, but happy to listen to Mr Rob Maclellan about planning issues down in Ventnor. Eventually through strong local protests he backs down...

Our local member Ken Smith :: Still has not replied to my email regarding a secondary School for the island.

I sort of feel sorry for Ted Ballieu, it is no wonder his fortunes faded.

He was gracious how he lead and stepped down. I liked him, his quiet ways. It was refreshing compared when you listen to to federal government. Unlike most politicians I never got the impression he was in it for power. Rather I think he thought he could make a difference.

It will be interesting how the liberals work with 'Christian' Mr Shaw from Frankston, now the king maker. A person who makes obscene gestures in parliament, alleged rortes with his tax payer funded car and his homophobia. (It is a reason you have to be very carefully with the 'Christian' label and politics, it can do more damage than good.)

He reminds me of federal politics where Peter Slipper was a ticking time bomb for the labor party....

Ventnor re-zoning...

Great Article just put up by 'The Age' on the Ventnor re-zone decision by the Balieu government.
It reveals more questions about Mr Mathew Guys initial decision....

On a positive side great that our liberal federal member Greg Hunt lobbied against the decision. Representing people in his electorate.

But what is more of a concern is how quite Ken Smith liberal state member and Speaker of the house has been. I haven't heard him speak at all on the topic.....

Desal disaster x2

The Desal project in in the news again down our way. This time with reports of spying::

From the ABC::

Members of the Electrical Trade Union (ETU) walked off the job at Wonthaggi over reports in the Australian newspaper that the company had employed contractors to infiltrate union ranks and spy on workers.
More delays, more cost blow outs. Why didn't the the government just give away free water tanks. It would have been cheaper...
