Apple iPhone 5c a win for google.

I have to admit I was pretty disappointed with what Apple revealed on Tuesday, not so much the new phones rather the price point. Like a lot of other commentators out there I was expecting an 5c iPhone to come roughly $200 dollars less than the current 5 iPhone. Not the $60 as it turned out. In our house it has already sparked the discussion maybe we should move to android...

But where I think things will unravel with Apple in the long term, is competitiveness for the battle for the Ecco-system. If I look at what I spend with Apple the majority would be on music, movies and rentals. Not the actual hardware. But I can see apple loosing this battle if people aren't using their technology.

So yes, the winner of the iPhone 5c launch is google.

HTC Desire 18 months on...

Its been 18 months since I switched from the iphone 3G to the Android HTC Desire. I've some mixed feeling about the device, but ultimatley I wont be continuing with Android. While I think Google has given manufactures a solid operating system my biggest gripe is the manufacturers and telecom carriers havn't continued to upgrade them on older devices including the HTC Desire.
When I had the iphone I had about two upgrades; and from what I can gather the phone is still getting upgraded!

On a positive note, physically the phone has been solid. Its still operating even considering the phone has been dropped a few times.
Its also been good to see Google often upgrading their app store. But its not enough to hold me....

Vodafone and Nexus

My Choice of a android phone has just become more difficult. Vodafone has just announced Nexus One from July the 1st. Although I would want to have a look at their other plans $79 is a bit steep!
Still leaning towards the Galaxy S though on price only!

Nexus one on its way...

Good news from the Australian Android blog. The Google Nexus One looks like it will be coming to Australia. Vodafone looks like the carrier. This is the phone which I've been keeping a close eye on.

Lets just hope the plans are reasonable!

Two more months and a new phone...

Two more months and we change over and get a new mobile phone. Christina looks like sticking to her iphone. But me I'm going android. I've had it with all Apples litigation over anything.
So what will I do with the old iphone. Look like I can put android on it!

Rupert Murdock, New Corp to charge for online content

Rupert Murdock's News Corp has come out and posted a loss. According to the New York Time
$5.4 Billion dollars worth. The paper reported that
the Internet had created opportunities to distribute news cheaply — no need for printing presses or trucks — but said, “it has not made content free. We plan to charge for all our news Web sites.”

I personally don't think it will Murdocks plan will work, in the long term. Yes there is a cost to readership. Journalist should be paid. Yet there are a lot of very, very, good writers and journalist who don't get paid via the old time 'print media' days, they never got a opportunity. Maybe they never had the right qualifications. Google ads means that if good enough, writers with enough persistence can make money. The internet has broadened the volume of journalists and increased the means of distributing the work. It appears to have flattened the competition. Where anyone can break a story, without the overhead. It's a good thing.

This Mr Murdock in the new competition....
