Wiki bias...

Just had a look at the wiki page of the two major Melbourne papers The Herald Sun and The Age looking for readership. What I found interesting was how The Age was classified under a summary and throughout the article as "politically aligned to the left". While I think this as true I think it would have been fair to describe The Herald Sun as "politically aligned to the right", the wiki article had no such indication of political bias. Yet it's pretty obvious been owned by Murdoch's Newscorps. Best known for the proud right leaning "Fox news" in US.

Anyway, having no political indication will not make me by the paper, at least while any Murdoch is running things

The Age digital subscription, rip off.

One of the first apps that got on my iPad was 'The Age', it was terribly buggy initially but after a year or so it was up to scratch.

The beginning of July Fairfax the owners of The Age introduced a digital subscription. While I think paying for good journalism is the right thing to do, I also think that the options should be broader than what is currently on offer at fairfax at the moment.

I don't think paying $25 a month is worthwhile for me considering I really only ever read Saturday or Sunday additions. That means I'm paying close to $4 for the two days a week which I read the paper. This is on top of a $500 dollar device that I payed for, and it's also my bandwidth I've pays for it as well.

Having an option just to purchase just that day, is what I want. It's actually the fair thing to do.

So now it's the ABC, and BBC that keeps me informed. Or if I'm desperate I'll go to the library or a cafe for a physical copy.

Gippsland the land of culinary peasantry :: The Age

I found 'Cheap Eats' 2010 in the Cowes library so I automatically borrowed it. Started to relax with my herbal tea and to my HORROR, Gipsland is not mentioned! You get
  • Hills and Yarra Valley
  • Mornington peninsual
  • Great Ocean Road
  • Central Victoria
There are a few conclusion
  • There are no 'Cheap Eats' in Gippsland.
  • Nobody reads 'The Age' in Gippsland
  • 'Cheap Eats' is wrong a load of crock.
I think the last two probably hit the mark. Considering the 'Good Food Guide 2009' didn't have anything to say about Phillip Island.
The other odd thing. What is the book doing in the Cowes library? no use east of Melbourne.

Danny Nalliah back from the dead

Interesting The Age's Barney Zwartz wrote an interesting article about Danny Nalliah; and how Danny prayer for a dead elderly women and she came back from death.

Yes I believe in miracles. I've seen people who where in palliative care and discharged alive to live many many normal years. I've been in code blue situations where a persons heart has stopped and they have been brought back. I've also seen miracles of peoples circumstances changing. Broken relationships restored, people coming back from dire financial situations.
Yet when I see miracles in a 'Christian' situation I'm not sure. There is a 'pack' mentality. An encouraging which builds and builds. In the end its as if they have talked the 'pack' in to believing that a miracle has occurred. Not surprisingly you see it as well with clairvoyants on television shows.
I would have liked Barney To have given some context to the miracle. It sounded like a Christian tour of the Holy Land. Where Danny was the guide.

The other interesting thing I found with the article is how 'Barny' has almost given an endorsement of Danny Nalliah. You just have to look at his wikipedia page to shake your head.

In his candicy for Famil First on his brochre he wrote
"parishioners to pray that God would pull down "Satan's strongholds", which included brothels, gambling places, bottle shops, mosques and temples (including Freemason, Buddhist and Hindu temples)"
Then for the black saturday bushfires
Nalliah claimed he had received "prophetic dreams" on October 21 2008 that these bushfires were a "consequence" of Victoria's decriminalisation of abortion in 2008
I just love this story of Ghandhi:: (From John Mark ministries)

A Hindu, Gandhi nevertheless admired Jesus and often quoted from the Sermon on the Mount. Once when the missionary E. Stanley Jones met with Gandhi he asked him, “Mr. Gandhi, though you quote the words of Christ often, why is that you appear to so adamantly reject becoming his follower?”
Gandhi replied, “Oh, I don’t reject your Christ. I love your Christ. It’s just that so many of you Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

Ahhh I think Ghandhi  had something here....
